Keith in Tommy - 1973

Keith as Uncle Ernie

Keith as Uncle Ernie in the 1973 Australian stage production of Tommy.

In 1973 Keith came to Australia to play Uncle Ernie in the Australian stage production of Tommy. There were two shows with Keith, one in Melbourne at the Myer Music Bowl and one at Sydney's Randwick Racecourse. A second "due to popular demand" show was held in Melbourne however Keith could not be involved due to commitments back in the UK. I understand that Ian "Molly" Meldrum took his place for this show. If anyone can confirm this it would be appreciated. The cast included Daryl Braithwaite as Tommy, Billy Thorpe as The Local Lad, Ross Wilson as Cousin Kevin and others.

Further details to be posted in due course. Would love to hear from anyone with more info on these shows - particularly the story about Keith's attempt in Sydney to hijack a bus to Cuba (or was it a tram to Cuba from Melbourne!?)...

Also, very interested to hear from anyone who has a copy of the program.
