Pete & Roger - Crowd Control
Roger Intro's Quadrophenia
Love Reign O'er Me + Roger's Outro
Venue: The Capitol Centre, Largo, Maryland, USA, Thursday, December 6, 1973 Source: Soundboard Comments: The buzz has been about for quite a while about the release of this and the Spectrum 1973 (CD) (Unknown) CD and finally they're both here. This is an ex- cellent and complete soundboard recording of a killer Quadrophenia show. The sound is clear and nothing I heard sounded muddled or mucked about with. After the band figured out what worked on stage without the frequent backing tape problems, the Quadrophenia portion of the show was cut down to these tracks. Roger provides a brief story line of Quadrophenia and the meaning of "Mods". In addition, Roger and Pete request the crowd stop shoving and to take a few steps back. The Quadrophe- nia tracks all shine through in my opinion and the sound is vastly - VASTLY improved over any of the Tales From The Who CD's and LP's et al. I've noted there are several fade-outs at the end of tracks - primarily during pauses between the music and stage announcements and it is somewhat noticeable but not a tragedy. The CD cover is a photo from the the 500th anniversary broadcast of the British TV show Top of The Pops on October 3, 1973. The Who were invited to debut their new single "5:15" and were in terrific form for the taping of this show. Pete smashed the Gretsch "Chet Atkins" guitar that Joe Walsh had presented to him in 1970. If you're able to procure this and the Spectrum 1973 CD's you'll be in possession of two excellent, EXCELLENT sounding - and well-performed, vintage Quadrophenia shows.
