Can you see the real me

I went back to the doctor
To get another shrink.
I sit and tell him about my weekend
But he never betray what he thinks.

Can you see the real me, doctor?
Can you see the real me, doctor?
Can ya mmm, can ya

I went back to my mother
I said, "I'm crazy ma, help me."
She said, "I know how it feels son,
'Cause it runs in the family."

Oh can you see the real me..., mother?
Can you see the real me, mother?
Can you see the real me
Can you see the real me
Can you see the real me, can ya
Can you see the real me
Can you see

The cracks between the paving stones
Look like rivers of flowing veins.
Strange people who know me
Peeping from behind every window pane.
The girl I used to love
Lives in this yellow house.
Yesterday she passed me by,
She doesn't want to know me now.

Oh can you see the real me, can ya?
Can ya
Can you see the real me, can ya?

I went to the holy man
Full of lies and hate
I seemed to scare him a little
So he showed me to the golden gate
I tell ya
Can you see the real me, holy man?
Can't you see the real me woo....
Can't you see the real me
Can't you see the real me
Can't you see
Can't you see
Ah no.

Rock and roll's going do me
Do me an evil wrong
Funny how your best friend's turn out
It was good for oh so long
Can't stop myself getting letters
And then the people try to turn me back
Publisher want my memoir
And my limousines are black
Can't you see the real me, rock and roll, rock and roll
Can't you see the real me me me me me me me
Can't you see the real me
Can't you see the real me
People
Can't you see
Can't you see
Can't you see
Can't you see
Can't you see
Can't you see
Can't you see

Dirty Water

Oh when you turn on the tap, but you feel all the crap
A lotta huss, a little muss, but don't you make a fuss
It's dirty water, only dirty water
  It's dirty water,
But it's gonna run clean someday.

Leave a little time, won't ya drink your little wine
In the meantime wade of the nation while you find dirty water
Dirty water
It's only dirty water and it's gonna run clean someday.

[Add-libbing]

Turn on the tap, but you feel alot of crap
A lotta huss, a little muss, but don't you make a fuss
It's dirty water, only dirty water
It's only dirty water and it's gonna run clean someday.

Commonwealth Boys

Don't ever call me a man
I'll decide for myself to tell you what I am
Don't want to be called a boy know more
Cause boys fill the trenches in imperialist war
Don't ever call me a queen
Victoria and values just ain't the scene
Don't want to be held responsible for you
To blame you for the future and the history too.

We are the Commonwealth boys
South African village Jamaican toys
Born to create but trained to destroy
And I am a Commonwealth boy.

Don't ask if I'm a respectable force
I'm a ineffectual, intellectual of course
You would not up stand a really pretentious fool
I became aware in the care of a waitresses' school
Don't even call me a friend of the post
The fox holes have fallen and the cemeteries closed
And I've been slaving down on charity farm
Living like a socialist with blood on my arm
We are the Commonwealth youths
From Tunder and Turnside were looking for jobs
Born to create but doomed to destroy
I am a Commonwealth boy.

Don't ever call me a man
I'll decide for myself to tell you what I am
Don't want to be called a boy know more
Cause boys fill the trenches in imperialist war
Don't ever call me a queen
Victoria and values just ain't my scene
Don't want to be responsible for you
We blame you for the future and the history too.

Don't ever call me a man
I'll decide when my life ends
I'm a boy  I'm a boy don't you tell the fairies
I'm a boy  I'm a boy but my mother would not admit it.

I Like It The Way It Is

La da da da da___ la da da
La da da da da ____la da da

I go halfway 'round the world
 I need another girl
But when I see her all I do is think of you.
We take a drink at my hotel
I pray for your telephone bell
But it's my turn to call you won't come through.

I never wanna hurt you again I tried to change my life, I promise this.
The only trouble is you no I think I like it the way it is.
I think I like it the way it is

La da da da da___ la da da
La da da da da ____la da da

As I lay awake alone
I know you are waiting home
And there's really nothing going on.

I try to please the local crew
'Cause they say they love me too
But I'm really only showing off.

I never wanna hurt you again I tried to change my life, I promise this.
The only trouble is you no I think I like it the way it is.
I think I like it the way it is.

My heart, oh my heart is aching and I'm lonely for you
But I know that really they'll seem like so many words of truth
Oh darling, oh darling, oh darling am I even worth your frown?
The sweetness of your kiss is gone I've brought a curse to you now.

La da da da da___ la da da
La da da da da____la da da

I go halfway 'round the world
I need another girl
But when I see her all I do is think of you.

We take a drink at my hotel
I pray for your telephone bell
But it's my turn to call you won't get through.

I never wanna hurt you again I tried to change my life, I promise this
The only trouble is you no, I think I like it the way it is
I think I like it the way it is
I think I like it the way it is

Just the way it is.

No Way Out (however much I booze)

I watch myself on TV, I'm a faker, a paper clown
It's clear to all my friends that I habitually lie,
I just bring them down
I claim proneness to exaggeration
But the truth lies in my frustration
The children of the night all pass me by
Have to dress myself up in brandy in sleep I hide,
But I don't care how much I booze ,
There ain't no way out
There ain't no way out
I don't care what you say boy
     There ain't no way out

I lose so many nights of sleep, worrying about my responsibility
All the problems that screw me up, down to him or me?
My ego will just confuse me, one day it's going to up and use me
Dish me out another tailor-made compliment
Tell me about some destiny I can't prevent
How ever much I squirm
There ain't no way out
There ain't no way out
I don't care what you say boy
     There ain't no way out
  There ain't no way out.

And the night comes down like a cell door closing
Suddenly I realize that I'm writing now more honestly
While all alone with a bottle and my head up floating
Far away from the phone and the conscience going on at me and on at me
And I don't care what you say
There ain't no way out, no way out, there ain't no way out.
Just drive me.

There ain't no way out....etc

I walk into a club, and know one seems to know me
I have to tell the story of my life, to keep from being thrown out there and then
It all seems so futile can I live with some shy stud who disowned me
Can't face the fact that once you open up for real you become ambivalent
They both let you in , there ain't no way out
There ain't no way out
I don't care what you say boy, there ain't no way out
Take it from me.

Now the walls are all clawed and scratched, like by some soul insane
In the morning I hung-overly detach myself, I'll take no blame
I just can't face my failure, I'm nothing but a well-fucked sailor
You at home can easily decide what's right
By glancing over so briefly at what I write
But it don't help me that you know, there ain't no way out
No way out
No way out
I don't care what you say, there ain't no way out

There ain't no way out, etc....

Parvardigar (German version)

Oh Parvardigar, all' erhältst Du und beschützt Du

Was immer unseren Augen verborgen bleibt

überall bist Du im Firmament und Tiefen
Und auf allen Ebenen und überall
Oh Parvardigar, all' erhältst und beschützt Du

Yazdan, Ahuramazda
Und Gott der Geliebte

Oh Parvardigar, all' erhältst und beschützt Du
Ohne Anfang, Herr, und ohne Ende
Ezad, der einzig Anbetungswürdige
Dir singen wir unser Weltengebet Amen.

Sea & Sand

Here by the sea and sand
Nothing ever goes as planned,
I just couldn't face going home
It was just a drag on my own.
They finally threw me out
My mom got drunk on stout,
My dad couldn't stand on two feet,
As he lectured about morality,
Well now I guess the families complete,
With me hanging round on the street
Or here on the beach.

The girl I love
Is a perfect dresser
Wears every fashion
Gets it to the tee
Heavens above
Ooo I got to match her
I know where she wants her man to be
Leave it to me.

My jacket's gonna be cut slim and checked
Maybe a touch  seersucker with an open neck
I ride a G.S. scooter with my hair cut neat
In my wartime coat in the wind and sleet.

I see her dance
Across the ballroom
UV light making star shine on her smile
I am the face
Mmm she has to know me
I'm dressed up better than anyone within a mile.

Ohh, Ah

So how come the other cats look much better?
Without a penny to spend they dress to the letter
How come the girls all come on oh so cool
Yet when you meet 'em, every one's a fool?

Come sleep on the beach
Keep within my reach
I'm feeling  high with you near
I just want to die with you hear
I'm wet and I'm cold
But thank God I ain't old
Why didn't I say what I mean?
Oh I should have split home at fifteen
There's a story that the grass is so green
What did I see?
Where have I been?

Nothing is planned, by the sea and the sand.

(Ad Lib)

I Am Afraid

I stand beside you
I face the future
I'll admit to you
I am afraid

I am not drunk now
I am not pilled down
My windows wound down
I am not brainwashed
I am not running
I am not hiding
My bet's still riding
I am afraid

I stand beside you
I face the future
I'll admit to you
I am afraid

I swung you high-o
I swung you low-a
I watch your eye-o
I watch you grow-a
I hear you crying
Your brother's dying
Be no more lying
I am afraid

By my religion
I stand here naked
I cannot fake it
With God as witness
My little children
Who wait for feeding
I watch you bleeding
And I am afraid

I am afraid
As I stand beside you
I have no ? you
I am afraid

Maxims For Lunch

Now I know I was served in a big silver chair
But you seemed to think I deserved all indulgence I dared
We shared the same golden spoon
Unaware of who was feeding whom
Back then at the start we could eat with anyone we cared
I should've know you was full by the way that you hand it to me
We both got so old I couldn't say how we planned it to be
No need to pull any punch
Love maxims for lunch
With the fresh broken heart you will eat with anyone that's agreeing
We were full on caprese, we laughed while we dine
I served the entrée, you served the spirits and the wine
But time heals, and while we laughed through our meals
I cheated desire, fading and tired and pine
So won't you RSVP now, say it right to my face
Have a maxim more for the road and let's get out of this place
I spent to long on the queue, you over drank the Le Tour
Let's get back to wafers and water, I can't stand the pace

I spent too long on the mike, while you were loving to type
And now that we've eaten we can both say what the hell we like

Eminence Front

Sun shines
People forget
The spray flies, speedboat glides
People forget
Girls smile... people forget
The snow packs, the skier tracks
People forget
They forget they're hiding.

On an eminence front
Eminence front - It's a put on
Eminence front
Eminence front, It's a fuck'n  put on

Drinks flow
People forget
Big wheel spins
 The hair thins, people forget
The news slows..., people forget
The shares crash, hopes are dashed, people forget
They forget they're hiding.

Eminence front
Eminence front - it's just a put on
Eminence front
Eminence front - it's just a put on
Eminence front

Come on join the party dress to kill

Lonely Words

I'm afraid I spoke too soon again
   Thought it important to explain
Now I'm gazing at my lonely words

I spent the night in there layin' there
All over the floor like cutoff hair
And I can't take back my lonely words

Don't take them in
My lonely words
    Please don't befriend
 My lonely words

The things I've said don't stay with me
They live alone in anarchy
I can't help to cushion lonely words

But I am still in love with you
Nothing I said in fear was true
Please don't you befriend my lonely words

Don't take them in
My lonely words
Please don't befriend
My lonely words

In a sandstorm, words are wind born
Lonely sheets torn, from a love alone
Journal full of plans, that should melt in your hands
 Oh...

I'm afraid I spoke too soon again
(The things I've said don't stay with me)
I thought it important to try to explain
(They live alone in anarchy)
Now I'm gazing at my lonely words
(I can't help to cushion lonely words)
I spent the night in there layin' there
(I am still in love with you)
All over the floor like cutoff hair
(Nothing I said in fear was true)
I can't take back my lonely words
(Please don't you befriend my lonely words)

Oh, don't take them in
My lonely words
Please don't befriend
My lonely words
Don't take them in, please don't take in
My lonely words
Please don't befriend, don't befriend
My lonely words

Don't take them in
My lonely words
Please don't befriend
My lonely words

Iron Man Recitative

The Iron Man came to the top of the cliff
How far had he walked? Nobody knows
Where had he come from? Nobody knows
How was he made? Nobody knows
Taller than a house, the Iron Man stood at the top of the cliff, in the darkness.

The wind sang through his iron fingers
And  his great iron head, shaped like a dustbin but as  big as a bedroom,
Slowly turned to the right
Slowly turned to the left
 He was hearing the sea.

His eyes like headlamps, glowed white then red
 Then infa-red, searching the sea
Never before had the Iron Man seen the sea.

He swayed in the strong wind that pressed against his back
He swayed forward, on the brink of the high cliff
And his right foot, his enormous iron right foot, lifted-up, out,
into space,
And the Iron Man stepped forward, off the cliff, into nothingness
 CRASH.

Down the cliff the Iron Man came toppling head over heels
CRASH!
CRASH!
CRASH!

From rock to rock, tumbling slowly,
and as he crashed and crashed his iron legs fell off,
his iron arms broke off, and the hands broke off the arms
His great iron ears fell off
And his eyes fell out
His great iron head fell off.

All the separate pieces tumbled scattered crashing
bumping clanging down, on to the rocky beach below
Then silence.

Nobody knew the Iron Man had fallen
Nobody knew the Iron Man had fallen.

Tough Boys

Tough boys, running the streets, come a little closer
Tough boys, under the sheets you know nobody knows her
Tough boys, don't walk a-way, I barely nearly missed you
Tough boys, come over here, I want to bite and kiss you

(AD-LIB'S)

Tough boys, running the streets, come a little closer
Rough boys, under the sheets know nobody knows her
Rough boys, don't walk a-way, I barely nearly missed you
Tough boys, come over here I want to bite and kiss you
Oh Ho....I barely nearly missed you
Oh Ho....You know I barely nearly missed you
Rough boy..........Ah oh yea

Tough boys, come a little closer
Rough boys, don't touch her nobody knows her

Rough boys, running the streets, come a little closer
Rough boys, under the sheets know nobody knows her

Rough boys
Tough boys ahhh
Rough boys
Tough boys

Tough boys, running the streets, come a little closer
Rough boys, under the streets I barley remember
Rough boys rough boys rough boys,
rough boys rough boys rough boys,
rough boys rough boys rough boys,
rough boys rough boys rough boys
Your so rough boys.

Did You Steal My Money?

Did you steal my money?
Did you steal my money?
Did you steal my money?
Did you steal my money?
Did you steal my money?
Did you steal my money?
Did you steal my money?
I wake up on broken glass
But you left your number
All the members in the cast
You reckon I was lumbered

Did you steal it
Did you screw me
Did you feel it
Did you do me, did you?
Did you steal my money?
Did you?

Are you out there Mr no-one
Is my investment growing
Sorry that I got so drunk
But I wrote you a poem

Did you search me
Did you turn me over
While I cold turkeyed
On the sofa
Did you steal my money?
Did you?
Did you steal my money?

How can we forgive a grievance
Now that we all live with demons
Did you know that poor old veteran
That you kicked right out of his bed
Says that he cannot forget you
But he does not wish that you were dead
Leave his gold watch in reception
He will keep the fifteen stitches in his head
Did you steal his money

Did you pinch my trainer football
Say you half inched it
I thought I heard a female foot fall
While I washed my kitchen

Did you use me
Why'd I trust you
Why'd you abuse me
I won't bust you oh.....

Why did you steal my money
Did you steal my money
Steal my money
Did you steal my wallet
Fell right off my lorry
Did you
Did you lift my brasso
Nick my gelt you asshole
Did you steal my money
Did you steal my money

Can you really dance
Really take a chance
Can you really dance
Stand into the real world

Walk into the real world
Step into the steal world

All Lovers Are Deranged (Pete's version)

It takes a fool to phone a fool
When they both have said it all
We make the rule and bemoan the rule
That neither soul should call
But love that was is love that is
Demands to always be unchanged
But then all lovers are deranged.

We walk away with memories
And clutch them to our hearts
We disembodied entities
We love in fits and starts
For love like wine intoxicates
It drives all of you drink insane
But then all  lovers are deranged.

You know that you don't really fall in love
Unless you're seventeen
Then break your word let your spirits fly
But you can't know what it means
Unless you're seventeen.

It takes a fight to start a fight, and differences remain
We have the right to think we're right, we're addicts feigning shame
For love recalled, is love reborn, we're determined to revive the pain
But then all lovers are deranged.

All lovers are deranged

It takes a fool to phone a fool
When they both have said it all
We make the rule bemoan the rule
That neither soul should call

How Can You Do It Alone?

Saw a man about fifty or so
He looked lonely but his eyes were bright
I was walking up  Holland Park Road
And I stopped him to ask for a light
He practically froze when I spoke
But eased when he saw my cigarette
Then I saw as he lit up my smoke
Beneath his coat he was naked and wet

Who can you blame he knew that I knew
In the sound of his breath was a moan
I said "I know there's no name
For what you go through
But how can you do it alone".

I crossed the street to the local news store
Flicked through some cheap magazines
Beside me some school kid I saw
Push some girlie mag down into his jeans
The shop girl was watching amazed
Asked me to call for the police
She screamed at his blushing young face
But he escaped into the streets

With eyes full of shame
For he knew that I knew
He slumped to the wall with a moan
I said "I know there's no name
For what you go through
But how can you do it alone".

Do it alone, how can you do it alone.
I need your help, so I can do it by myself.
Do it alone, don't have to breathe down the phone
I ain't got a clue, 'bout the things that you do
But how...can you do it alone.

How can you do it...etc

Back at the flat my girl sat in the shower
And wasn't too keen on me sharing
She came out well after an hour
And by that time I was past caring
Some women it seems have the knack
Of attaining that stars in their dreams
They simply relax and lay back
While people like us scratch our jeans.

With eyes full of shame
And I know it must show
I slump  and I fall and I groan
Will somebody explain
What I need to know
How, can you do it alone.

How can you do it alone...etc

Squirm Squirm

Here is message number one, I am your beloved son
Here is message number two, I'm in love with only you
Here is message number three, you cannot escape from me
Here is message number four

I'm so far away

Looking down from high above,  flying with a purple dove
I try now to describe the scene, this is what I think I seen

Squirm squirm went the worm
Squirm squirm went the worm

Here is message number five, you are here, you're alive
Here is message number six, there's no magic, there's no tricks
Here is message number seven, there's no hell, there's no heaven
Here is message number eight,
I'm so far away, I'm so lost and lonely now

Trodden down with my leather shoe
Killing ants as I talk to you
Squashing mites as I deeply slept
This is the record that I kept

Squirm squirm went the worm
Squirm squirm went the worm

Here is message number one, I am your beloved son
Here is message number two, I'm in love with only you
Here is message number three, you cannot escape from me
Here is message number four

Help!

Looking down from high above, flying with a purple dove
I try now to describe the scene, this is what I think I seen

Squirm squirm went the worm
Squirm squirm went the worm
Squirm squirm went the worm

Outlive The Dinosaur

I breathe my throat clenches
Clutching to exclude  dozen different stenches
In Falmouth Bay whale rolls
In the swill from sewer holes
Summers longer deltas gashed
Ancient trees uprooted smashed
Time is generous-more take more
I must outrun the dinosaur
I must outrun the dinosaur

The temple is silent marble-hard
Decays and softens battle-scarred
A relic deaf to bits and streams
 Polo-necks and perfect jeans
Obsessed with silence spiked by noise
I hold my son I plan his toys
Time expansive more take more
I must outlive the dinosaur
(ad-Lib) I must outlive the dinosaur
Must outlive the dinosaur

Rising rivers drown new shoots
Words and breath in death cahoots
Strong survive to wean more brutes
Who grow and seed and extend their roots
Cowards and bombs and scab recruits
Like monkeys trapped in monkey suits
Time is plentiful more take more
I must outfight the dinosaur

Teresa

Teresa, I had no idea how much I'd need her
Take me home and teach me how to feed her
My heart is palpitating and I guess wrong
But I guess I'll get along
She's just a girl

Teresa, all I ever want to do is please her
She pulls me up and kissed me what's the reason
I just keep on crashing down in the guest room
I Guess  I'll get along
She's just a girl

I don't know if I love her
Passion

Teresa, just a girl just a girl
Teresa, she's just a girl just a girl
Teresa, just a girl just a girl
Teresa , just a girl

(Guitar Solo)

She's just a girl
Just a fucking girl

Teresa, my heart felt like a shattered glass in an acid bath
I felt like one of those flattened ants you find on a crazy path
I'd of topped myself to give you time you don't need to ask
 I'm  a suicidal psychopath?
Your just a girl - your just a girl

Consumed, there's a beautiful white horse I saw on a dream stage
He had a snake the size of a sewer pipe living in his rib cage
I feel like a pickled priest who was being flambed

It's an inquisition Blondie
Just a girl - I'm happy
I'm fucking ecstatic- lucky, lucky

Just a girl just a girl
Just a girl just a girl
Just a girl just a girl
Just a girl

Teresa, you picked me up by my lapels and screamed "cheater"
It's like waking up in heaven on an empty meter
I know you're in love with a man who's really a leader
I hate the cunt, I don't mean that
I just said it
Forget it, please
It is a girl
Ahh
It's just a girl
yea yea yea yea just a girl

Your just a girl
Just a fucking girl

Man And Machines

Man makes machines
To man the machines
That make the machines
That make the machines

Make a machine
To make a machine
And man and machine
Will make a machine

To break the machines
That make the machines . . . .

It's In Ya

I read your letter and the things you say
You said power chords are all that I should play
Well this is what you're gonna eat today, Virginia

Power chords are what you say you need
Look inside your body baby you will see
That man and egg and flying seed is in ya

If you depend on me to make you rock and roll
You better look out, titch, because we're gettin' old
Look inside and check out your neglected soul, Virginia

But I can seem to dance all night alone unseen
Or VIP and fight down at the Music Machine
But as for you the place to look for rock and roll is in ya

You got it in ya
You got it in ya
You got it in ya
You got it in ya
It's in ya
Yea it's in ya
It's in ya

Well, I'll forgive completely all your lack of tact
My patience holding out and it's a hard-earned fact
I could easily buy your time, dearest Virginia

You would always give me just a one more chance
Hang around and ask me for a chance to dance
But I can't make you jump baby if you ain't got it in ya
