Substitute Recordings 723-842683-3

Venue: KB Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark, Monday, August 21, 1972
Recording: Audience
Comments: Danish Treat is another very good release from Substitute Recordings.
This recording is just a notch below Live In Toronto 12-11-75 (CD) (Substitute
Recordings 382-828332-2)
in quality, which can be interpreted as a very good re-
cording, especially when compared to other recordings from the 1971/1972 period
that are available. This one generally has pretty full and clear sound, although RD’s
vocals and harmonica occasionally seem slightly faint compared to the rest of the
group (a slight increase of the mid- range helped in correcting this deficiency). There
is also some detectable hiss on some of the quieter songs which is hardly a com-
plaint given the overall quality of the recording. There does not appear to be a lot of
audience interaction (did the band not really talk to the folks in Copenhagen, or was
the banter edited out?) – either way, there does not appear to be a noticeable “editing
chop” between songs. The only downside to this release is that it is missing Naked
Eye
at the end, and possibly part of the My Generation Jam. The CD comes in a
typical plastic case with paper inserts that include some very good concert photos
(not necessarily from Copenhagen), and an interesting photo of KM wearing a Mc-
Govern ’72 t-shirt while holding an Olympia beer!). The CD itself is red in color and
on the inside portion states “Mitsui CD-R”. However, all original discs of this CD
state this as opposed to CD-R’s that omit this and are usually on a blue colored
disc and the artwork is generally somewhat darker as well. Grab this one if you can
find it – you will not be disappointed!
