The kids are alright, even into their 70s, as Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend proved Friday night, treating a packed house of admirers at the BB&T Center to two hours of the Who’s generation-defining hits, many given new textures and warmth by a symphony orchestra.

To get answers to the obvious questions out of the way: Daltrey, 75, sounded great, his vocals for the most part strong and clear, no easy task on “The Real Me” and “Love, Reign O’er Me,” escalating anthems that would test any vocalist. Daltrey passed. Townshend, 74, was Townshend: As a man, by turns prickly, condescending, warm and funny; as a guitarist, physical, innovative and without peer. Yes, the trademark windmill was operational.
