The Who are back in the spotlight this week performing with The Wallflowers.
The Who and Jakob Dylan’s band team up for gigs at Madison Square Garden Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The Black Crowes and Jimmy Page were originally supposed to share this would-be mega bill with The Who, but the former act was forced to pull out when Page injured his back. The former Led Zeppelin guitarist had been touring with the Crowes this summer in support of the amazing 2-CD set “Jimmy Page & the Black Crowes: Live At the Greek.”
If tickets remain, they can be purchased via Ticketmaster charge-by-phone and all Ticketmaster outlets. For Staten Islanders, the most convenient locations are the former Showplace Bowling Center and Zig Zag Compact Discs, both Travis.
Mary J. Blige headlines Radio City Music Hall Saturday. Check with Ticketmaster for seat availability.
The Bangles make some noise at Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Pl., Monday. The Dandy Warhols are there Tuesday and Joan Osborne plays the club Wednesday.
Ducats for these shows are on sale at the Irving Plaza box and Ticketmaster.
Trans Am plays the Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey St., tomorrow. Elastica is there Wednesday. For additional information call 212-533-2111. Meanwhile, El Vez
for Prez takes the stage at The Mercury Lounge, 217 E. Houston St., Wednesday and Thursday.
The Lounge can be reached at 212-260-4700. The Blue Note plays host tomorrow to guitarist Dave Stryker and his “Shades of Miles” band. Showtimes are 9 and 11:30 p.m.
Stryker is touring in support of his latest release, also titled “Shades of Miles.” The CD celebrates Miles Davis’ 1970s period.
As the story goes, Stryker first encountered Davis’ music growing up in Omaha, Nebraska. Upon arriving in New York in 1980, Stryker joined organist Jack McDuff’s group for a two-year stint. When he wasn’t writing or fronting his own band, Stryker performed and recorded as a sideman with the legendary Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Turrentine, Kevin Mahogany, Javon Jackson, Eliane Elias and Steve Slagle.
