Orbison Tribute Brings Out Stars

A tribute to the late Roy Orbison on Saturday at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles will be an all-star musical affair.

Dean Stockwell will be the host, and the performers include original Byrds David Crosby, Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman, John Hiatt, bluesmen John Lee Hooker and B.B. King, k.d. lang, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, the Stray Cats, Dwight Yoakum, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz of Talking Heads, and actors Gary Busey and Patrick Swayze.

Pete Townshend will make an appearance from London, and Johnny Cash from Nashville, Tenn.

Proceeds from the show will go to the homeless in southern California. "Roy was dedicated to helping others," said his wife, Barbara, who is an executive producer of the concert, "and in recent years he became more and more concerned over the plight of the homeless in this country.

"This concert will honor his desire to do something about this problem."

Negotiations are under way for radio and television broadcast rights.
