The Who and The Grateful Dead, two of the biggest rock groups, are scheduled for Oct. 9 and 10 in Bill Graham’s biggest and final Days on the Green series at the Oakland Stadium.

The Who revolutionized rock and roll when they made their first appearance on the rock scene 12 years ago. They are also one of the few original British supergroups whose members are still the originals. Their unique rock opera recordings range from “A Quick One While He’s Away” to the world famous “Tommy.”

The members of the group are almost as well known individually as they are collectively: Keith Moon (drummer) as a recording artist and personality; John Entwistle (bass) as leader of the group Ox and a solo performer; Roger Daltrey (vocals) as a film star and recording artist; and Peter Townshend (guitar), as a musical genius.

The Grateful Dead come from the other side of the world and from the early days of “psychedelia” have been leaders on the rock scene. Their first album was among the few which were able to truly capture the San Francisco sound on record and since then they have continued to expand their musical horizons as a group and as individuals.
