The delights of downloading digital audio data may be ratcheted up a notch or two later this year if new live albums from The Who and Jimmy Page are made available online before they're released as compact discs.
The reunited Who — Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Roger Daltrey — gathered for a few charity benefits late last year, and the music recorded during those stops might be downloadable through a Web site — Musicmaker.com — before it's issued on commercial disc, according to a report in Billboard.
In January, Musicmaker began offering for free download a cut called "Oh Well," recorded by Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes in concert. The cut is the first in a series from that tour that will eventually be available online as well as in CD stores.
Musicmaker is an e-tailer that allows buyers to browse its catalog and compile a mix of tracks, which can be ordered as custom-made CDs.
