The Who, Melissa Scheduled Here

The entertainment calendar is crowded this week, dominated by a performance by the Who.

THE OMNI will be the site of the Who concert Monday at 8 p.m. The show has been sold out for several weeks. Toots and the Maytalls, the reggae band, is the opening act.

The show is the first one in Atlanta for the Who in nearly two years. The quartets current American trip is the largest since 1971, encompassing 19 cities and 20 concerts. The tour began last Thursday in Houston and Atlanta is the fourth stop.

In anticipation of the American visit, the British group released its latest album, The Who by Numbers. A single has recently been taken from the album, entitled Squeeze Box.

The Who is one of the most celebrated bands in the history of rock n roll. Tommy, the groups most famous work, is generally considered the first and best rock opera. The Whos performance of Tommy on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House was acknowledged as a milestone in gaining acceptance for rock as an important branch of music.

Personnel remain the same. Roger Daltrey is the lead singer. Pete Townshend is the lead guitarist and principal writer. John Entwistle is bass guitarist and Keith Moon is the drummer. They have each undertaken assignments outside the Who, but in their countless interviews continually stress that the Who is their preoccupation. They have remained remarkably untouched by success and this is considered one of the key ingredients in their continued popularity.
