Peter Townshend solo

The Who's lead guitarist, Peter Townshend, performs a solo during a concert Tuesday at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. The two-hour concert drew a sell-out crowd estimated at 20,000 people.

The British rock group played a mixture of such old standards as "Behind Blue Eyes" and newer works as "Cry If You Want."

The concert, which also featured a dazzling light show, climaxed with "Won't Get Fooled Again." Townshend slammed his guitar on the stage during an encore number.
