Ledge sitter pulls off – Who coup

Well, Tim ("the rock 'n' roll animal") U'ren apparently did it — he got the Who for Milwaukee.

All it took was sitting on a ledge and peering down at Milwaukee for 15 days from the 21st floor of the downtown building where his radio station, WQFM, is housed. U'ren is a disc jockey.

And now the Who are going to show up in the city that made Schlitz famous — or is that the other way around?

The concert will be Dec. 6 at the Milwaukee Arena, according to Who managers who contacted WQFM. Details have not been released on tickets, but reportedly requests will be handled by mail order.

Some of you out there are probably asking who this Who is? And weren't they on first in an Abbott and Costello routine?

Just think of the Rolling Stones, but with taller people and a lead singer with a real big nose, who plays songs about teenagers, wastelands, not getting fooled again, and kids being all right.

Sounds like a lot of other bands, huh?

Well, they've been burning this slightly tarnished torch for a good 17 years.

Unfortunately, the band may be best known by some for the deaths of six in Cincinnati three years ago.

The six kids were trampled to death as fans pushed their way into the first-come, first-serve seats.

Now the Who is on a multi-city farewell tour that is doing so well that lead singer Roger Daltrey has been quoted as saying that this might be "a first farewell tour."

Milwaukee was not to be graced with the band's presence on the original schedule, and U'ren, was outraged at this oversight.

On Sept. 16 he climbed out the window and sat on the ledge, encouraging people to sign petitions urging the Who to come to play their city. These disc jockeys are capable of anything.
