Saturday's outing took us to Lulu's for John Entwistle, the bassist for the Who. I've been a Who fan for about 20 years and have seen them in concert five or six times. I've also seen every farewell tour — and I think there were four — the Who did. So I couldn't let an opportunity like Entwistle's show pass by.

The club was only half full but he kept the audience happy mixing original tunes with old Who material. The show wasn't bad, but the absence of Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend was felt strongly. Entwistle's Boris the Spider was great, though.

Edgar Winter played an opening set and his 20-minute version of Frankenstein put his musicianship on display. He moved from keyboards to wailing sax and then picked up the beat accompanying the drummer on a second set of drums. For his encore, he played an extended version of the blues tune Tobacco Road.
