The Teen Beat

THE WHO: Pop music is a better thing for The Who—and that’s one of the best things you can say about any group. Their originality actually influenced The Beatles and can be found as the root of the whole psychedelic thing. In the pic, they’re: Keith Moon, the drummer who while he seems to be hitting everything at once provides a letter-perfect beat; Peter Townshend, the guitarist who proved pop can be creative; Roger Daltrey, who sings to their way-out music and doesn’t detract from it—which isn’t easy; and John Entwhistle, the solid bassist around who all this talent gels into The Who.

Their background is unusual in that none of them ever really harbored any ambition to be a musician—although John played French Horn in school—and it was only their desire to inject creativity into pop that led them to become the highest-paid working group in Europe today and the leaders of the generation that has had an amazing influence on England and the world. They’re at the Forum Wednesday for the first CFOX bash. Don’t miss them.
