ROGER DALTREY — "Daltrey" (Track): Roger, singer with The Who, has followed his colleagues, Pete Townshend and John Entwistle in releasing a solo album and, like theirs, his solo effort is vastly different from the sort of material usually associated with the group as a whole.

There's hardly any Who-type rock here, or any of that aggressive vocal style for which Roger has become known. Instead we have a softer, more relaxed Daltrey — sometimes even backed by a string orchestra — performing some pleasant if undemanding songs written by the Sayer-Courtney team.

A few tracks aren't particularly memorable, but others — like the catchy "One Man Band" or "Giving It All Away", Roger's single that's already in the charts — make this a fairly worthwhile solo venture on the whole.

And at least, it's giving Who fans (self included) an opportunity to hear another side of Roger's vocal talents.

One of many surprises about the album is the fact that it's produced by Adam Faith, a mate of his.
