Hundreds of West Country fans became film extras at Bath Pavilion on Monday evening when the Who were filmed by CBS for showing coast-to-coast in America.

Arrivals at the hall were met by a battery of cameras and arc lamps.

A lot of interest centred around two young ladies from Bristol who started queuelling at 10 o’clock in the morning.

The group rose to the occasion brilliantly as did the stewards in their handling of the hysterical, fainting and trance-like girls!

During the last number, My Generation, the Who did some of their now-expected smashing of equipment.

Guitarist Pete Townshend smashed his speakers and amplifier, drummer Keith Moon kicked his complete drum kit off the rostrum and John Entwhistle threw his bass guitar to the ground at the end of the number.

All very well for the benefit of the screamers, and of course for the film producers, but to members of various local groups present it was sheer sacrilege of expensive equipment.
