Today in Whostory: 5/13/2026

    1965 – The Who play the Public Hall in Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire. The Who played the first set to a half-empty hall, and during the second set had coins thrown at them from the patrons of the now closed pubs nearby.

    1966 – The Who play the Wimbledon Palais in Wimbledon

    1966 – The Who appear on the BBC Light Programme The Joe Loss Pop Show. Again a trio, Pete, John and Keith apologize for Roger’s absence saying he has a sore throat. Pete sings “A Legal Matter,” John sings the next two, “CC Rider” and “Dancing in the Street.”

    1967 – Melody Maker reports on The Who’s upcoming American tour

    1967 – The Who are scheduled to play the Shoreline Club in Bognor Regis, Sussex, but they did not appear due to the small size of the stage

    1967 – “Pictures of Lily” enters Sweden’s Tio i Topp charts where it will peak at #3

    1969 – The Who play the first of three nights at the Boston Tea Party in Boston, Massachusetts

    1971 – The Who play the Kinetic Circus at the Mayfair Suite in Birmingham

    1972 – Tommy (Part One), a budget re-release of disc one of the Tommy LP, hits store shelves in Britain. Those who have heard the original and buy this one find “Eyesight To The Blind” now features an alternate vocal.

    1974 – Three more days of “Tommy” filming begins, this time with Pete and John backing Eric Clapton for the “Eyesight To The Blind” sequence shot at the Royal Marine Church in Eastney. You can watch the outcome in a clip from Tommy on Youtube here

    1974 – John and Keith are interviewed by Nicky Horne on Capital Radio’s Your Mother Wouldn’t Like It from their studios in Euston Tower, London.

    1975 – John is featured on the cover of Good Times magazine

     

    If anyone lives in or near Santa Cruz, California, apparently the public library has an archive of Good Times. Perhaps someone could get a copy of this interview/article? 🙂

    1979 – The Who are featured in Stan Drake and Brendon Boyd’s “Pop Idols”

    1979 – The Who play the Arenes de Frejus in Frejus, France

    1992 – U.S. TV airs the special American Bandstand 40th Anniversary Special featuring an all-star jam with Bo Diddley. John Entwistle is the featured bass player. The event was recorded on March 25th.

    1996 – Roger reprises his Hugh Fitzcairn role on Highlander: The Series in an episode called “Till Death”

    1997 – The Who play the Zénith de Paris in Paris, France

    2005 – INDH2 hi-def channel on cable premiers The Who’s 2004 performance at the Isle Of Wight

    2009 – Roger meets Prince Charles at a health conference in Central London. Asked what he thinks of the 60-year-old Prince, Daltrey says: “The work Charles is doing is amazing. He’s his own man.” Roger also says to the Prince: “Don’t let the bastards grind you down!”

    2011 – Roger Daltrey gives in impromptu concert aboard the Queen Mary 2 during its passage from England to New York City. From a stool on the stage of the Royal Court Theatre, Roger performs songs by Hank Williams and Johnny Cash while telling the audience of his origins as a musician. The hour-long show is part of a seagoing songwriting seminar led by Chris Difford of Squeeze.

    2015 – The Who play the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois

    2016 – The Who play Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

    2019 – The Who play Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York

    2022 – The Who play the Fedex Forum in Memphis, Tennessee
