The Who comes to Memphis Sunday with a new stage act after performing its celebrated rock opera, "Tommy," for what was said to be the last time earlier this month at the Metropolitan Opera House.

Peter Townshend, who wrote "Tommy" and before that had lifted The Who into the who's-who of rock through such techniques as smashing his guitar over his knee or pointing it at the audience as though it were a machine-gun, is the group's leader. He's backed by bass man John Entwistle, lead singer Roger Daltrey and drummer Keith Moon.
