Venue: Civic Auditorium, San Francisco, California, USA, Sunday, December 12, 1971
Recording: Audience
Comments: There may be some discrepancy on the date and location of this show.
The Who Concert Guide has the more famous SF ’71 show listed as the 13th at the
SF Civic Center. While this page has that show (Black Dog Records) listed as the
12th at the Civic Auditorium. This is definitely a different show. A decent sounding
audience recording with a fairly clear line on John’s bass. While the performance is
average, Pete really seems to be enjoying himself as there is a lot of banter between
the songs. At one point Pete mentions that he is wearing knee pads due to “water
on the knee“. Unfortunately, Overture fades out after 4 minutes and the rest of the
show is missing. The single disc clocks in at almost 79 minutes. I’ll give Reel Mast-
ers some credit; others may have split this into 2 discs just to make some extra
cash. Compare with the CD listed above.
