Pete posts a pdf file on his site in response to recent questions about whether charities such as Live 8 do any good for poor countries. Ultimately Pete has to say that he has no answers: "I am uncomfortable about being received as someone who might be able to impart anything other than the elegant dividing of time known as music. It is what I do best. Because my work requires me to use words, without the impetuosity of youth I stumble today over finding something useful to say. I do not see it as my job to inspire anybody; that would be arrogant. But I must accept that it seems my mere words do inspire some people."
