"Just so you'll know, we'll be back!"

How are those for happy words? Especially when they came from singer Roger Daltrey backstage at Gund Arena during the Who show Saturday night.

Happy was the right word for guitarist Pete Townshend, too, hugging drummer Jimmy Fox of the old James Gang when Fox was escorted backstage. Townshend hadn't seen Fox in 15 years. The James Gang toured Europe with the Who in 1969-70. "But Cleveland is our favorite place to play," Townshend said.

That bandage on Townshend's right wrist was for an old fracture, reinjured the night before at the Atlanta show. You may have missed the little bandage between Daltrey's fingers. He slipped offstage to get it. Daltrey's microphone nicked him on the way down after being tossed in the air during Townshend's "Sheraton Gibson" song, from his first solo album, "Who Came First."

Word is that the song was written about the old Sheraton-Cleveland Hotel, now the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel on Public Square.
