FOXBOROUGH – Stadium concerts just don't get any better than this. The Who thoroughly aced their exam last night, scoring in the upper 99th percentile on song selection, visuals, sound mix, performance, crowd rapport and just about anything else you might want to judge a show by.

Extraordinary is the only word that comes to mind. Starting with 40 minutes of the rock opera "Tommy," finishing with an encore of "Twist and Shout" and touching almost every base in between, the Who were in full, astounding flight.

Even the traffic hassles weren't bad, at least getting there. And the romantic half-moon shining in the crystal-clear night didn't hurt, either. Put it all together and you have the best Sullivan Stadium show since the Police in 1983. To carry the superlatives a little further, it was the best stadium show this writer has ever seen.

It was loud, which is to be expected from the Who, former winners for rock volume in the Guinness Book of Records. The stadium switchboard lit up with a few irate calls about the volume from local residents (stadium officials responded by asking the band to turn it down at intermission), but it was a clean, pristine
