John's second solo album Whistle Rymes is released in the U.K. The U.S. release is the following day. The album's tunes are quite funny but also rather dark with Roy Carr in New Musical Express saying they, “make Alice Cooper's capers appear as harmless as The Magic Roundabout.” The U.S. boosts the LP to #138 on the Billboard charts. A single, “I Wonder” backed with “Who Cares?” is released in the U.S. around the same time but fails to chart.
