Pete and his new band Deep End make their concert debut in Brixton, England as part of a charity for the Brixton Academy. The shows also mark the debut of Pete's “big band “ sound featuring backup singers, a horn section and an additional electric guitarist that will become Pete's standard format with The Who for the next thirteen years. On stage with Pete at this show are Dave Gilmour on the added electric (also Quadrophenia at Hyde Park 1996), Jodi Linscott on percussion (1989 Who, 1996 Quadrophenia, 1998 Townshend and 2000 Lifehouse), Simon Phillips on drums (1989 Who and Psychoderelict tour), Chucho Merchan on bass (1998 Townshend and 2000 Lifehouse), Peter Hope-Evans on harmonica (Psychoderelict tour, 1998 Townshend and 2000 Lifehouse), Roddy Lorimer, Simon Clarke, and Tim Saunders on brass (1989 Who), and Billy Nicholls both backing vocals and musical director (practically everything to date). John “Rabbit “ Bundrick on keyboards and Bobby Pridden on the mixing board are the only holdovers from The Who.The shows tonight and tomorrow are recorded and filmed and are later released as the album Pete Townshend's Deep End Live and the video Pete Townshend's Deep End: The Brixton, England Concert.
