£250 GUITAR STOLEN FROM 'THE WHO' IN CITY
The Who — a top British pop group — arrived back in London today — minus one £250 guitar which was stolen from their dressing room at Carlisle Market Hall on Saturday night.
Police in Carlisle were looking today for the thief, who was believed to be among the milling crowd in the group's dressing room after their performance in the hall for Border fans.
The guitar belongs to the lead guitarist, Pete Townsend, and was a Rickenbacken — one of the most expensive available.
The group's manager, Mr Chris Stamp, told the "Evening News" today: "The boys had finished their performance, and the road manager was on stage clearing up equipment. It seems there were quite a number of fans in the dressing room, and when the road manager got back there, the guitar was missing."
