ROGER DALTREY — This young man is the fair-haired lead singer with "The Who." His style lends an excitement to the performance spoiled only slightly by the contrived antics with the hand microphone. Roger Daltrey is as good with a hand mike and cord as Lash LaRue was with a lariat.

Set the scene. There is a large building with 120,000 square feet of floor space. Into this enclosure pack in excess of 7,200 people after removing the tables and chairs. Add three rock bands, amplifiers on high and a light show.

YOU ARE NOW IN THE REALM OF KELKER JUNCTION.

The sound of a flute playing an enchanting melody provides an interlude between the louder psychedelic numbers emanating from the bandstand. Directly under the speakers the sound is heard — felt — it becomes reality, or at least a version of it for the moment.

The evening begins with "The Beast" followed by "Noble and the Matadors" and finally the featured attraction, "The Who."

The Beast stole the show. The group is composed of six coast-to-coast originated young men who have been together a scant five weeks.
