Posters and hand bills ham-Devizes areas advertising a dance arranged by the pop group The Who in Devizes Corn Exchange next Saturday have been defaced.
Rumours have also been spread that the dance will not be taking place.
Mr. Mel Bush, of The Bassetts, Box, the group promoter said he has reported the matter to the police.
He said large daubs of paint had been squirted on to posters on bordings in Bristol Road and London Road Chippenham, and other places.
Strips of paper with the word "cancelled" printed on them in six-inch high red letters had been pasted across them.
It had also come to his notice that rumours had been spread that the dance would not be taking place. He added: "We shall definitely be there and the dance will be held."
