'Who' Cancel Show at Last Minute

The Who show, set for the Capitol Theatre Wednesday night, was cancelled to the disappointment of 3,000 Ottawa teen-agers who had paid for advance tickets. The British pop group was supposed to have performed twice.

Fans who attended the first show at 6:30 were entertained by the Spencer Davis Group, another British product, for 40 minutes. When intermission was extended to 45 minutes, the crowd began to stamp their feet, and shout "We want the Who." Al Pascal, master of ceremonies for the evening, calmed them by announcing that the group would be on in 10 minutes.

Half an hour later, the Who's road manager formally announced that the group would not appear. Apparently their instruments had failed to arrive from Toronto, and drummer Keith Moon had been told he has bronchial pneumonia.

The crowd limited themselves to vocal protest. Officials were worried that there may have been a repeat of the disturbance at the Coliseum two years ago when the Animals refused to perform. On that occasion disgruntled teen-agers caused extensive damage to the building.

The Treble Clef has promised to refund the price of the tickets to all those who present their stubs at the office Friday.
