Roger Daltry, lead singer of The Who pop group, who were to have appeared at Trentham Gardens to-night, has been taken ill in London.
The sell-out concert was called off to-day.
The news is a shock for the 2,500 fans who had bought tickets, at 3 each, for the show which was arranged three months ago.
A spokesman for Trentham Gardens said "This is a terrible blow. The first we heard of Mr. Daltry's illness was at noon to-day.
"His agent telephoned to say he is suffering from asthematic congestion and his doctor has ordered him to stay in bed."
Tickets have been sold to Who fans all over the country and this afternoon messages were being sent to ticketholders in Bristol, Gloucester, Birmingham and Manchester.
An appeal had been made to the B.B.C. to broadcast news of the cancellation on the radio.
The concert has now been re-timed to take place on Monday, October 26th when tickets for to-night's show can be used. Otherwise ticket money will be refunded.
