Pop Fans Saved a Wasted Journey

Pop fans saved a wasted journey

A massive exercise in instant communications prevented thousands of pop fans arriving for a concert that wasn’t at Trentham Gardens last night.

More than 2,500 tickets for a concert featuring The Who have been sold before yesterday’s 11th-hour announcement that the show was called off because the lead singer had been taken ill.

Within minutes of the news coming through messages were sent to fans throughout the Midlands and the West Country.

“Thanks to the co-operation of the Evening Sentinel and the B.B.C. we managed to let nearly everyone know in time that the concert was off,” said a spokesman.

Last night about 200 fans turned up at Trentham Gardens, but there was no trouble. Some ticket money was refunded, but other fans will use the tickets at the re-timed concert on Monday, October 26th.
