At Tuscaloosa

The Who, often acclaimed by critics as the most exciting live act on the road, comes to the Coliseum at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Monday, Nov. 22, for a concert at 8 p.m.

The Who saga is familiar to most of its fans 7 the once-clashing personalities (who have remained together since 1963), the brilliant burst of creativity, the triumphal entry into America, victory and survival into the next decade.

The quartet appeared in Birmingham several years ago. They have become a number one record selling group. They9ve written and performed in a rock opera Tommy at the New York Metropolitan Opera House. Currently The Who has two LPs riding the top charts of the nation, Who9s Next, and Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy.

Going back on the road was a major decision for a group of this stature at a time when most big bands were confining themselves to studio recording. Perhaps the real reason is that The Who has always been a visual group who seem to draw inspiration from the applause of their fans.

Leader Peter Townshend is considered one of the great musicians of the new music, and a master of showmanship.
