Ance was in 1970, when Anaheim Stadium became the first U.S. baseball park to host a major rock concert. Adverse publicity from that show caused a five-year moratorium on Big A rock and roll.

Tom Liegler, stadium-convention center director, said Sunday’s concert was an overwhelming financial success, netting the city around $95,000 in rental, parking and concession revenues.

“I think we saw the same type of behavior here you’re going to experience at any type of large gathering,” said Liegler. “A small minority will interfere with the rights of the majority.

“I would have to say I didn’t see anything today that was grossly out of line in comparison to concerts at other stadiums. I’ve noticed higher use of alcohol at football games — and that’s not the youth, it’s older folks like me.”

Liegler lauded Bastrup and his officers; John Roche, event coordinator; and the Contemporary company, which provided youth-oriented security.
