Combining crisp notes with his frantic stage presence, Daltry saved the night for The Who.

The only other flaw in a near perfect performance centered on bassist John Entwistle. Known as one of the prime innovators in music, Entwistle's ability was demonstrated only once in a brief solo during "My Generation."

Throughout the 110-minute show, the music was punctuated by a series of dazzling light shows that would have made a July 4th fireworks display seem like child's play.

Frequently the Coliseum was bathed in multi-colored lights that panned the screaming crowd. Unlike most concerts, however, the theatrics added to, rather than detracted from, the music offered up by The Who.

If any of the 14,000 plus crowd was disappointed by a lack of any new material, it wasn't evident. As with the other shows on their current tour, the band didn't hint at what might be contained on their upcoming album.

After 17 songs and one encore, The Who left the stage for the final time.
