Who’s Townshend Caught Devo’s Act

Who’s Townshend caught Devo’s act

Keeping Up With The Who: Peter Townshend showed up alone and unannounced Tuesday night at the Devo concert in the Music Hall on Danforth Ave. and quickly attracted three groupies who tried to stick to him like glue. He resisted, as only a happily married man would.

After their Exhibition Stadium concert Wednesday night, The Who gave a party for their backstage crew at Chequers on Yorkville Ave. It wound up at 4 a.m. and the band raced by limousine to the airport and boarded their private jet for England.

Townshend has a solo album due in September but The Who’s next album likely won’t be released until 1981. Under Townshend’s management, the rock group has been co-producing movies recently. Quadrophenia, a mods and rockers dramatic effort, with music from its album of the same name, and The Kids Are Alright (a documentary about the group) were released in North America earlier this year, and MacVicar (also with its music but featuring actors, not the group) is set for fall release.
