NEW YORK — Pete Townshend, leader of one of rock music’s most enduring groups, “The Who,” says he expects the band to break up after its next album is released later this year.
In an interview in the June 24 issue of Rolling Stone magazine, Townshend said “The Who” will probably make a concert tour after the album is completed.
“But,” he added, “after that, I really think we’ve had enough.”
“The Who” got together in 1965.
The British singer, who recently underwent treatment for alcohol and drug addiction, said, “Once I stopped taking everything . . . and started to be careful about my diet and got into a routine of regular exercise, the transformation was instant.”
Townshend said his third solo album, All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes, reflects the struggle he went through during his addiction.
“Unfortunately, a lot of unhappiness comes through. But there’s also a great feeling that I seem determined to win, somehow.”
