The legendary rock band The Who, one of the last of the British supergroups, said farewell last night to Bay Area fans at the Oakland Coliseum stadium on what is billed as the group's final tour.

The group, led by guitarist Peter Townshend, right, plans to retire from the concert circuit, with occasional get-togethers to produce records in the future.

The sold-out performance was part of a nationwide farewell tour including the popular British group The Clash.

The groups are scheduled to perform again Monday at the Oakland Coliseum Arena.
