Capacity crowd jammed the Tangerine Bowl to see The Who
64,000 cheering fans see The Who
ORLANDO — “We are Who-man beings,” chanted the 64,000 concertgoers wedged into the Tangerine Bowl, as the British rock group The Who thundered away Saturday as it opened the second leg of its American tour.
Police reported a heavy post-concert traffic jam as the only incident resulting from the Central Florida appearance of the four rock’n’roll stars and their high-decibel music.
“Who! Who! Who! Who!” screamed an appreciative audience, as Peter Townshend, Roger Daltrey, Kenney Jones and John Entwhistle played songs ranging from the group’s 1966 hit single “I Can’t Explain” to the title song of its latest album, “It’s Hard” and selections from the rock-opera “Tommy.”
However, one of the warm-up groups, the B-52s, was booed off the stage.
Mason Buck, The Who’s road manager, said “we’re playing it by ear” as to whether the group will ever tour in the United States again.
