It was obvious during this run of hits that The Who didn’t need backup singers – they had the audience, which was on its feet for the entire concert.

Tricky one intermittently throughout the night. During his “Face to Face,” three giant video screens were unveiled and the concert was flashed live for fans in the large football stadium.

Daltrey strapped on a guitar for “Ain’t That a Man,” a gutsy blues number. Then they launched into a string of their single hits like “Can’t Explain,” “Substitute,” and “I Can See For Miles.” It was obvious during this run of hits that The Who didn’t need backup singers – they had the audience, which was on its feet for the entire concert.

After a few Entwistle tunes, the band took a break and started the second set with an acoustical “Magic Bus.” And the words to “Baba O’Reilly” – “Let’s get together before we get much older” – seemed particularly right for the evening.

The band followed with a succession of favorites that seemed to get more powerful as they reached their final number – “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” In the final frenzy, the words “The Who” flanked the stage in brilliant white light.

They left after an encore of a jazzy, “Twist and Shout.”

After this concert, it’s obvious this band needs no re-g-generation.
