Who's on Broadway?

The Who's mammoth rock opera "Tommy" finally hit the boards as it opened on Broadway, just as creator Pete Townshend puts the finishing touches on his latest solo studio album.

"Tommy" opened April 22. The musical tells the story of a blind, deaf and dumb boy who, through "sense of smell," becomes a pinball wizard. The show isn't the first time the rock opera has been dramatized. A movie starring Roger Daltrey and Ann-Margret hit the screens more than a decade ago.

Townshend's album, titled "PsychoDerelict," mixes rock music with science fiction, radio theater and virtual reality.

Like "Tommy," "PsychoDerelict" tells a story. This musical hero is an aging rock star named Ray Highsmith who's become a bit of a recluse. Other characters include his manager, Rastus Knight, and Streeting, who seduces both and betrays one.

"PsychoDerelict" should hit the shelves in June.
