Who’s ‘Ox’ brings solo show to Sting

During his reign as The Who’s bassist, John Entwistle was nicknamed “The Ox” for his silent, yet powerful stage presence.

But as the first member of The Who to go solo, Entwistle proved he had the voice and bravura to command center stage.

He’s produced five solo recordings, is in the midst of putting out a self-titled compilation disc, a Who book, some new lithographs, and has tapped into the On-Line Network.

He’s also currently on tour and will be stopping at the Sting in New Britain on Saturday.

How reminiscent of The Who is Entwistle’s solo sound?

“It’s going to sound like The Who, because I was part of The Who,” Entwistle said in a recent phone interview, “but it’s a bit harder.

“I think the music still stands up. In fact, I noticed when I was mixing the stuff [for the compilation], how modern it sounded.”
