A Concorde carrying pop stars Elton John and Pete Townshend developed engine trouble over the Atlantic yesterday, forcing it to make an emergency landing in eastern Canada.

The supersonic British Airways jet, en route to New York from London, landed smoothly on three engines after the pilot shut down the fourth one, a spokesman for the airport in Halifax said.

Passengers continued their flight on a Boeing 747.
