RE-GENERATION: Roger Daltrey heads the band in the old hits

Musicians from across the generations joined forces with legendary band The Who in a charity performance for cancer-stricken teenagers.

Oasis’s Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller and Stereophonics front man Kelly Jones were among today’s artists who took to the stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall with the fifty-something rockers to perform a collection of the Band’s classic hits, on the last date in The Who’s UK tour.

Singer Roger Daltrey, bassist John Entwistle and Townshend wowed the Albert Hall crowd with an energetic performance which was reminiscent of their wild sixties performances.

The men who once sang about hoping to die before they got old showed no sign of ageing as they blasted out some of their legendary repertoire.

Former Jam singer Paul Weller joined Pete Townshend for the early Who song Sad About Us, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Bedder flew 9,000 miles from Hawaii to sing I’m One from the rock opera Quadrophenia and Canadian star Bryan Adams performed Behind Blue Eyes, from the Who’s Next album.

Throughout their tour, The Who have managed to raise over £1 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust which helps maintain specialist hospital units for young people with cancer, leukaemia, Hodgkin’s and other related illnesses.
