The Who With Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Details: Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. Amalie Arena, 401 Channelside Drive, Tampa. $36.25-$136.25. (813) 301-2500.

Aging, ageless, washed up, legendary and, yes, even “who?” You’ll get a lot of descriptors when you ask music fans from every generation to describe the Who. But when you step into Amalie Arena on Wednesday night, it might be hard to find a dry eye in the building when Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey finally bid a final farewell to fans as part of what Townshend himself is calling a “long goodbye” tour.

The tears could be for drummer Keith Moon and bassist John Entwistle, who both died long ago (1978 and 2002, respectively), or they could be because tickets to this show could end up costing you a pretty penny ($802.25 for a VIP experience).

But the fact that the Brit rockers are launching a 21-date, two-month tour right here in Tampa is a pretty big deal. Their legacy rivals the Rolling Stones’, and many would argue that Townshend’s guitar fury and Moon’s drums-as-disorder approach to percussion were far more progressive and brave than Keith Richards or Charlie Watts has ever been.

There’s a feeling that this really could be it for the mod-era heroes, and we wouldn’t take a chance on missing this for anything.
