DESERT TRIP Weekend 1 closes with Who, Waters

A historic Desert Trip drew to a close Sunday following a battle of the bands as epic as the three-day festival itself.

The Who opened for Roger Waters, the prime architect of Pink Floyd, and Who fans expected original members Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey to overcome their underdog status just as they did at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and through much of the 70s, when they were overshadowed respectively by Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
