Pete’s Gear: 1964 Rickenbacker 330S/12

News (July 2009): This guitar was available for auction via Ebay, but reportedly did not sell. (h/t Jake K. and DJ D)

Pete Townshend’s 1964 Rickenbacker 330S/12 12-string — only one of its kind. Used 1979–82 and heard in the 12-string parts on Face Dances, such as You Better You Bet.

Serial no. on jackplate: DG 893.

Pete Townshend (31 Oct. 1990): Originally “Fireglow” in colour, later sprayed black. Only one was made in 1964 and imported to the U.K. This is it! Purchased from Rose-Morris. I bought it from a collector in 1979. Not many of my Rickenbackers survived (see photo) — this one did.
