Pete’s Gear: Washburn Guitars

For Deep End-era shows in 1985 and 1986, Pete Townshend played Washburn Mirage Pro, Washburn SBF-24 and Washburn SBF-26 thinline acoustic/electric guitars on stage (as well as Takamine acoustics). These guitars were fed directly to the PA via direct box (unknown).

The Washburn Mirage Pro guitar in tobacco sunburst finish featured a mahagony single-cutaway body and neck, rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays; matching headstock with three-per-side chrome diecast tuners; active electronics with piezo pickup in bridge, an exposed humbucker between the soundhole and bridge, an EQ section on the upper bout with three control knobs (Equalizer, Middle (boost) and Gain), and Volume/Tone control knobs on the body, with a three-way toggle pickup selector.

The Washburn SBF-24 guitar in natural/blonde finish featured a mahagony single-cutaway body and neck, rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays; matching headstock with three-per-side chrome diecast tuners; active electronics with piezo pickup in bridge, three control knobs (volume, boost, tone) on the upper bout.

The Washburn SBF-26 guitar in natural/blonde finish featured a mahagony non-cutaway dreadnought-style body and neck, rosewood fingerboard with pearl diamond-style inlays; matching headstock with three-per-side chrome diecast tuners; active electronics with piezo pickup in bridge, two control knobs (volume, tone) on the upper bout.
